Broad intake, learnability test and PIP: what happens

Soon after you start, your municipality invites you to a broad intake: a conversation about your education, work experience, family situation and health. It comes with a learnability test, which estimates how quickly you pick up a language. Together they produce your personal Integration and Participation Plan (PIP) — a decision setting out your route and obligations, which you can object to.

What gets discussed

  • Your education and work experience, including from your country of origin.
  • Whether you can read and write in the Latin alphabet.
  • Your family situation, health, and what you need in order to study.
  • What you want: work, study, or language first.

Be honest about what is going on

Trauma, health problems, caring for children or interrupted schooling are not weaknesses to hide — they are exactly the things that should shape your route and pace. What you do not mention, the municipality cannot take into account.

The PIP is a decision

Your PIP sets out your route, your activities and your obligations. If you disagree — because your route is too demanding, or not demanding enough — you can object. The decision states how and by when.

  • Bring what you have to the intake: diplomas, work history, medical information.
  • Say so if studying is hard because of health or your home situation — that belongs in the assessment.
  • Read your PIP properly and object within the deadline if it is wrong.

Can I fail the learnability test?

No. It is not an exam; it estimates how you learn and helps set your route.

Must I share my progress with the municipality?

The municipality follows your programme; exactly what is shared is set out in your PIP and your agreement with your school.
