The 2025 Speaking exam fraud — and what it means for you

In August 2025 CvTE found fraud in the Staatsexamen NT2 Speaking exam: questions were circulating in a WhatsApp group with hundreds of members. That day's exam was declared invalid for every candidate and all afternoon sittings were cancelled. Fewer Speaking exams have been run ever since — which is why a slot takes longer.

What happened
- Exam questions were shared in a WhatsApp group with **hundreds of members**.
- Some candidates therefore sat the exam with prior knowledge.
- CvTE could not calculate fair results and declared the exam **invalid for every candidate that day**.
- All Speaking exams scheduled for that afternoon were cancelled.
Why you wait longer now
CvTE now deliberately runs fewer Speaking exams so morning candidates cannot pass questions to the afternoon. With DUO it is working on a long-term fix: changes to the exam design, the venues and the digital systems.
Fewer sittings means longer queues — on top of a year in which sittings already rose 59%. For the current situation, always check DUO's page.

- Book Speaking as early as you can — it has the tightest calendar.
- Stay out of groups sharing exam questions; the risk lands on everyone in the room.
- If your exam is cancelled, re-register immediately — the queue keeps moving.

DUO handles that case by case. Contact them and re-register straight away, because the queue keeps running.
Did this happen with Reading or Listening?
CvTE reports the fraud only for Speaking and says it sees no indications in the other parts.
