PVT and MAP explained — also if you are not going to work

Alongside your language exams, the Wet inburgering 2021 includes two parts you do at your municipality: the participation statement programme (PVT) and the Labour Market and Participation Module (MAP). Both are compulsory, even if you do not intend to work. DUO sends your language and KNM results; PVT and MAP results come from your municipality.

The PVT
The participation statement programme is a short series of sessions about Dutch society: fundamental rights, freedoms, duties. You finish it by signing the participation statement. It is not an exam — you cannot fail — but you do have to complete it.
The MAP
- You explore how the Dutch labour market works and what your experience is worth here.
- It includes a practical element: a workplace, internship or volunteering, arranged via your municipality.
- You finish with a conversation at the municipality about what you learned.
What you arrange yourself
Your municipality organises PVT and MAP, but finding a placement for the MAP is often partly down to you. Ask early: it takes time, and it falls inside the same three years as your exams.

- Start looking for a MAP placement early.
- Keep the confirmations for both alongside your exam certificates.

No. You cannot fail them, but they are compulsory to complete your integration.
Who gives me the result?
Your municipality. DUO sends the results for the language exams and KNM.
Make sure your language exams are done by the time PVT and MAP are finished.
