Failed: when can you resit, and what does it cost?

You can resit, and you only redo the part you failed — passed parts stay valid, even years later. You pay yourself, per part and per attempt. There is no legal waiting period; in practice the result term and the queue for a seat set your pace.

8 weeks, for every A2 language exam and for KNM. Only then do you know you need a resit.

DUO warns it can take more than 6 weeks before you can sit the exam.

The failed part only, on a new exam day.
So expect **three to six months** per full round. Fees change, so check the current amount on DUO's registration page. If you are under the integration obligation, ask your municipality about the DUO loan before you pay.
You are not the exception
Resitting is normal. In 2025 the average B1 pass rate was 51%, and CvTE reports the share of resitting candidates rose. Roughly half of all attempts do not pass. That says something about the exam, not about you.

- Keep practising while you wait, or you resit at a lower level than before.
- Register the moment your result arrives — the queue is six weeks or more.
- At risk of missing your integration deadline? Request an extension from your municipality early.
