Spreken: korte reactie
A short workplace or everyday situation; you react in about 20 seconds, doing every job the task names, in the right tone.
The build is the same as at B1: a situation, then the jobs. What changes at B2 is the situation. Een vergadering waarop u een presentatie zou geven, wordt op het laatste moment een week uitgesteld. Reageer op deze mededeling tegenover uw leidinggevende. The listener is now a manager, a client or a colleague, and the moments are delicate: a compliment, criticism, a misunderstanding, a refusal. Twenty seconds is still only three or four sentences. The difficulty is doing each job with tact and in full, correct sentences, not just getting the message across.
How the exam tests this
Staatsexamen NT2 programme II, Spreken: about 25 minutes, 13 recorded tasks. Four are short tasks like this one, with about 20 seconds to answer; eight take about 30 seconds; one is a long answer of about 2 minutes with preparation time. Two trained assessors mark the recordings against a marking scheme. The task cards in our bank ask: is the reaction clear and fitting for the situation, is it professional or natural, is the language correct and at B2 level? We have 23 of these short reaction tasks to practise with.
