Luisteren: hoofdgedachte
A question about the fragment as a whole: what it is mainly about, the key message, what the speaker wants to achieve.
Main-idea questions ask you to step back from the details: Wat is de belangrijkste boodschap? Waar gaat dit bericht vooral over? In our bank that is 127 of our 821 B1 listening items. Because you hear the fragment once, you cannot go back and survey it — you must build the overview while it plays. The wrong options are nearly always one real part of the fragment presented as if it were the whole.
How the exam tests this
In the B1 Luisteren exam each fragment plays once, and the multiple-choice answers are computer-marked. Among the detail questions, some ask about the whole: the key message of an interview, the main announcement in a news item, the goal of a work meeting. Three options are usually true pieces of the fragment — a number, one agenda point, a side remark — and one option summarises everything.
