Spreken: situatie
A 30-second role play: you speak directly to a colleague, neighbour, client or team about a delicate problem, and steer it to a solution.
These cards put you in an awkward moment and ask what you say. Een teamlid komt regelmatig te laat op vergaderingen, waardoor het hele team moet wachten. Als collega wilt u dit vriendelijk maar duidelijk aankaarten. Wat zegt u tegen hem? Other cards: a complaint to a company, bad news to your team, feedback to someone who does good work, mediating between two colleagues. The difficulty is not the vocabulary. It is doing two things at once in half a minute: being clear about the problem and keeping the relationship intact. The word the cards keep using is constructief.
How the exam tests this
Staatsexamen NT2 programme II, Spreken: 13 recorded tasks in about 25 minutes, eight of them medium tasks with about 30 seconds to answer. We have 14 of these situation tasks in our bank. Two trained assessors mark the recordings against a marking scheme. The task cards ask whether the problem is handled constructively, whether bad news is brought with tact, whether the complaint is clear and supported, and whether the language is appropriate and correct. Each card also lists its jobs, and the last one is nearly always a proposal, an agreement or what you expect.
What is wrong with this sentence?
Je bent altijd te laat. Dat is heel vervelend. Doe dat niet meer.
Most candidates write it exactly like this and lose the mark without knowing why.
